A strong high pressure system is likely to bring temperatures close to breaking a 77-year-old heat record for April 18.
The record for April 18 in Sacramento is 91 degrees, a mark set in 1939. The forecast for Monday is for temperatures to warm this afternoon to 89 degrees.
The high on Sunday was 85 degrees, which was five degrees short of the record set in 1954.
Temperatures are expected to cool by mid-week. By Friday it is predicted that temperatures will have dropped about 20 degrees from today’s maximum reading.
