Wind whips trees, flags in Sacramento; it'll blow all day
High winds will pepper the Sacramento region throughout Saturday, with chilly morning temperatures giving away to afternoon highs in the low 80s.
The National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory, which will remain in effect until 5 p.m.
The NWS said Sacramentans can expect sustained north-northwest winds of 23 to 25 mph, with gusts near 35 mph. More severe winds are expected in the Sierra Nevada as high pressure continues to build inland, combined with a low-pressure system exiting to the south.
Forecasters said they expect the strongest winds to occur Saturday afternoon in the western portion of the Sacramento Valley. The NWS said winds will decrease in the evening, but conditions will remain breezy into Sunday morning.
Scattered showers popped up throughout the Sacramento area on Friday night, bringing short bursts of rain, lightning and hail in some areas. There is a slight chance of showers in the area on Thursday and Friday.
