Temperatures may be soaring, but Sunday didn’t rank as the hottest day of the year so far for Sacramento according to the National Weather Service.

The heat climbed to a high of 86 degrees, but thermometers hit 90 degrees twice in downtown in April. NWS Meteorologist Travis Wilson said it will be a week or more before the heat gets past 90.

Temperatures will linger in the 80s until Wednesday when a storm system is expected to move into the area. After that, temperatures are expected to drop down into the 70s.

There’s a 20 percent chance of thunderstorms in the city starting Wednesday. Wilson said it’s tough to tell at this point how much rain Sacramento might get. The storms are predicted to be showery, so rain totals might differ widely across the area, he said.
