Cooler temperatures and a chance of showers are in the forecast for the Sacramento region for the remainder of the work week.

After a high of 85 degrees on Tuesday, temperatures are expected to drop into the 70s every day through Sunday. Along with the declining temperatures, showers are forecast starting tonight.

Also, according to the National Weather Service, look out for the possibility of afternoon thunderstorms. Today, however, is predicted to be rain-free.

The detailed, 7-day forecast from the NWS for the Sacramento region:

Wednesday: Cloudy, with a high near 79. South wind 3 to 7 mph.

Tonight: A chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 53. South wind 7 to 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Thursday: A chance of showers, with thunderstorms also possible after 11am. Partly sunny, with a high near 73. South southwest wind 6 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%.

Thursday night: A chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 54. South wind 5 to 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%.

Friday: A chance of showers, with thunderstorms also possible after 11am. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 71. South southwest wind around 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%.

Friday night: A chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 54. Chance of precipitation is 40%.

Saturday: A 30 percent chance of showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 72.
