Independence Day weekend brings cooler weather to Sacramento area

After a six consecutive days of temperatures of 100 degrees or more in Sacramento, the long holiday weekend will bring cooler weather.

The forecast is expected to remain in the low 90s throughout the weekend, just in time for Independence Day celebrations. Friday is projected to be 98 degrees, which is above average for early July, according to the National Weather Service.

June brought nine days of 100 degrees or hotter temperatures, but July will start off with consistently low- to mid-90s temperatures.

The detailed, 7-day forecast for the Sacramento region from the weather service:

Friday: Sunny and hot, with a high near 98. Southwest wind around 6 mph.

Friday night: Mostly clear, with a low around 61. South wind 7 to 14 mph, with gusts as high as 18 mph.

Saturday: Sunny, with a high near 93. Southwest wind 7 to 10 mph.

Saturday night: Mostly clear, with a low around 57. South wind 8 to 11 mph.

Sunday: Sunny, with a high near 92. South southwest wind around 7 mph.

Sunday night: Clear, with a low around 58.

Independence Day: Sunny, with a high near 90.

Monday night: Clear, with a low around 59.

Tuesday: Sunny, with a high near 92.

Tuesday night: Clear, with a low around 59.
