After seeing temperatures soar well into the 100s this week, temperatures will get slightly cooler in time for Independence Day weekend.

The high temperature on Friday was 98 degrees, six degrees hotter than the average for this time of year. The high on Saturday is expected to be 93 degrees.

The National Weather Service said a weak upper-level trough is the cause of the expected cooler temperatures throughout the coming week.

The NWS expects smoke from the Trailhead Fire in El Dorado and Placer counties to drift to nearby communities to the north.
