It you thought Monday was hot, just wait until about 5 p.m. Tuesday when the National Weather Service is predicting a high temperature of 106 degrees in Sacramento.
The mercury topped out at 103 degrees on Monday, higher than what forecasters originally thought would be the maximum for the day. A building high pressure and the absence of a Delta breeze elevated the heat beyond the 98 degrees that was forecast early in the day.
Absent the cooling of the breeze, look for above normal temperatures on Tuesday, with Sacramento Valley highs between 103 and 112 degrees. Some record high temperatures could be broken this week, with a good chance of a new mark being set at Redding today.
A high of 109 degrees is forecast for Redding on Tuesday, which is just a degree short of the record set in 2006.

Weather experts say that there is a possibility that smoke could drift eastward on Tuesday from the Soberanes wildfire south of Monterey.
