Hot Wednesday followed by a cooling trend in Sacramento

Another hot day is forecast for Sacramento on Wednesday, but a cooling trend is on the way.

The National Weather Service is predicting a high of 97 degrees in the Sacramento region about 5 p.m. The high on Tuesday was 98 degrees.

Looking ahead, daytime high temperatures should take a nosedive beginning Thursday. Temperatures are expected to only be in the high 80s through Saturday in Sacramento.

The normal high temperature in early August is 94 degrees. The detailed, 7-day forecast from the NWS for the Sacramento region:

Wednesday: Sunny and hot, with a high near 97. South southeast wind around 6 mph becoming calm.

Tonight: Clear, with a low around 58. Southwest wind 8 to 11 mph becoming south southeast in the evening.

Thursday: Sunny, with a high near 88. South wind around 9 mph.

Thursday night: Mostly clear, with a low around 56. South wind 9 to 11 mph.

Friday: Sunny, with a high near 86. South southwest wind around 7 mph.
