Warmer than usual temperatures expected to last through weekend

Sacramento-area residents can expect hotter than usual temperatures, with an expected high of 98 degrees on Friday and 100 degrees for Saturday.

“It’s not extreme summer heat, but it is definitely above average for this time of year,” said Travis Wilson, a meteorologist for the National Weather Service.

The record high temperature for Sacramento for Aug. 12 is 107 degrees, set in 1996, and 111 degrees for Aug. 13, set in 1933.

Normal temperatures for this time of year are usually average 93 degrees, he said. On Sunday, temperatures could reach 97 degrees.

For now, relief from the hot weather isn’t expected to come until the end of next week.

“The heat is not going anywhere any time soon,” Wilson said.
