The California Smog Check program tested more than 11 million vehicles in 2015. More than 10 percent of vehicles failed.
Under state law, most California vehicles more than six years old must be tested every two years to ensure they are not emitting too many pollutants.
Older vehicles fail smog tests a lot more often than newer ones. About 30 percent of vehicles built before 1988 failed their test last year, compared to less than 5 percent of vehicles built between 2007 and 2009. Repairs following smog tests can cost between hundreds and thousands of dollars.
This database lets you see 2015 smog test results for California vehicles, according to a Sacramento Bee analysis of records from the state Bureau of Automotive Repair. You can search by year, make or model; for example, "2007 Toyota Camry" or "2007 Toyota" or "2007."
