Vargas’ home run leads Aguascalientes over Monterrey in 11 innings

MONTERREY, Mexico (AP) -- Jose Vargas hit a solo home run in the top of the 11th inning to help lead the Rieleros de Aguascalientes to a 5-2 win over the Sultanes de Monterrey on Tuesday.

Later in the inning, Aguascalientes added insurance runs when Edson Garcia hit a solo home run and Cristhian Presichi scored on a forceout.

Vargas homered and singled twice, scoring two runs in the win.

Anthony Carter (1-0) got the win with two innings of scoreless, one-hit relief while Marco Antonio Rivas (0-1) took the loss in the Mexican League game.

Stranding 14 men on base, the Sultanes did not take advantage of some good scoring chances in the loss.
