Fernandez leads Hartford over Richmond 4-3

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) -- Vince Fernandez homered and had three hits as the Hartford Yard Goats beat the Richmond Flying Squirrels 4-3 on Wednesday.

Down 3-1 in the fifth, Richmond cut into the lead when Logan Webb hit an RBI single, bringing home Hamlet Marte.

The Yard Goats added to their lead in the sixth inning when Fernandez hit a solo home run.

The Flying Squirrels saw their comeback attempt come up short after Chris Shaw hit an RBI single, bringing home Ryan Howard in the eighth inning to cut the Hartford lead to 4-3.

Hartford southpaw Ty Culbreth (2-1) picked up the win after allowing two runs on just three hits over five innings. Opposing starter Webb (1-1) took the loss in the Eastern League game after allowing four runs and seven hits over six innings.
