Sports Night: Giants’ Tomlinson gets 3 RBIs in first start

Giants: Tomlinson swings big bat in first major-league start

Kelby Tomlinson notches three RBIs and two hits in a banner first major-league start, and Madison Bumgarner churns through a soft Atlanta Braves lineup as the Giants win 6-1 on Wednesday. Tomlinson becomes the first Giant to start his career with hits in his first three official at-bats since Fred Lewis in 2006.

Andy Furillo: Duvall deal a good one all around

If Mike Leake stays hot the final two months of the season and helps the Giants make the playoffs, the club will know who else to thank – Adam Duvall. Last week, the Giants traded Duvall, who was playing for the River Cats, to the Cincinnati Reds for Leake, a right-handed pitcher and proven major-league starter. Now playing with the Reds’ Triple-A club in Louisville, Duvall reflects on the deal he believes will benefit both the Giants and himself.

A’s: Failure to capitalize costly in loss to Orioles

The A’s go 1 for 13 with runners in scoring position and lose 7-3 to the Baltimore Orioles on Chris Davis’ grand slam in the 10th inning.

River Cats: Turley’s control is off in loss to Fresno

River Cats starter Nik Turley struggles with his control in host Fresno’s 5-2 win over Sacramento. Turley (5-6) needs 109 pitches to get through six innings. He allows five runs, walks five and throws a wild pitch.

49ers: Linebacker earns his keep

Linebacker Ahmad Brooks thought his time with the 49ers might be over after last season. So he shed some baggage – weight, bad attitude and lack of focus. This season, he says, he’s even ready to embrace a leadership role with the team.

Republic FC: Barrera a dynamic force

Danny Barrera has been a 5-foot-6 bundle of energy, creativity and tenacity since signing midway through the season. He is giving the team a spark since being moved from wing to center midfield.
