Horse sense: Arrington burned when Cinco finished cinco; Pajak hopes to recover from mile-high flop

Bee staff writers and horse players Debbie Arrington and Steve Pajak are renewing their head-to-head bankroll battle during the State Fair. Each started with a hypothetical $500 for 10 racing days.

ARRINGTON SAYS

Saturday: Lost $42.50 when Cinco de Mario finished fifth in fourth race.

Today: JUST LET IT SLIDE (eighth race) just wins, at least at low claiming levels. The John Martin trainee is 5 for 8 in 2016 and still improving.

The bet: $10 win and place on Just Let It Slide, $5 exacta box on Just Let It Slide, In Control and Morning Storm.

Bankroll: $427

Note to Steve: One weekend down, two to go.

PAJAK SAYS

Saturday: Lost $38 when Colorado Strong finished second in the fourth race.

Bankroll: $432

Today: MUCHO MACHO DAN (eighth race) ran headlong into a chance-killing hot interior fraction three weeks ago in Pleasanton and finished a better-than-looks third. The price is right today.

The bet: $40 win Mucho Macho Dan; $5 exacta box Mucho Macho Dan and Just Let It Slide.

Note: Be afraid, be very afraid.
