Regional digest: Hornets’ bullpen falters in loss to Fresno State

Sacramento State’s bullpen couldn’t contain Fresno State in the final two innings, and the Hornets lost 8-0 Wednesday night at Raley Field, according to the Sac State website.

The Hornets (21-19) trailed 1-0 after seven innings. But the Bulldogs (20-21) struck for five runs in the eighth and two in the ninth.

Sac State finished with five hits, including just one in the last four innings, against five Fresno State pitchers.

The Hornets threatened in the seventh inning. With two outs and Dan Deely on first after a walk, pinch hitter Ryan Locke doubled down the left-field line. But Deely was thrown out at the plate.
