Blair Lewis, Beverly Vatananugulkit and Andrea Wong won their matches to lift second-seeded UC Davis to a 3-2 win over third-seeded Wisconsin on Sunday in the semifinals of the inaugural East & West Match Play Challenge in Ann Arbor, Mich., UCD reported.

The victory came in the first match play competition for UC Davis since it began NCAA Division I competition in 2005. The three-day tournament emulates changes to the NCAA Finals that will debut in May. Eight teams competed in stroke play Saturday before starting two rounds of match play Sunday. UCD will face fourth-seeded SMU, which upset top-seeded Ohio State 3-2, today for the title.

UCD men third in soccer tourney

Lucas Mohageg scored in the 88th minute to give the UC Davis men’s soccer team a 1-1 overtime tie with Grand Canyon in the Copa de Causeway, hosted by UCD and Sacramento State.
