Sacramento-area college seniors to play in all-star basketball game

Mikh McKinney of Sacramento State, Corey Hawkins of UC Davis and Ponderosa High School graduate Brad Waldow, a forward from Saint Mary’s of Moraga, have been selected to play for the West team in the 2015 Reese’s Division I College All-Star Game on Friday at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, site of the NCAA Tournament Final Four and championship.

The National Association of Basketball Coaches, or NABC, selected the senior teams announced Tuesday. The game will be played Friday at 1:30 p.m. (Pacific) and will be televised on tape-delay Saturday at 10 a.m., on CBS (Channel 13).

McKinney (Big Sky) and Hawkins (Big West) were their conferences’ players of the year. Both are also finalists for 2015 Lou Henson Player of the Year award, which goes to the top player in Division I mid-major basketball. That award will be announced Friday evening at a banquet in Indianapolis.

On Monday, the Associated Press selected McKinney and Hawkins as Division I All-American honorable mentions.

McKinney was a first-team selection for NABC District 6. Hawkins and Waldow were first-team selections for NABC District 9.

On Thursday at Butler’s famous Hinkle Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Hawkins and Aggies teammate Kelsey Harris will participate in the State Farm College Slam Dunk & 3-Point Championships. The event will be on ESPN at 4 p.m..
