Despite 33 points by Corey Hawkins, the UC Davis men suffered their first loss this season, struggling in the second half of a 79-71 defeat to Idaho in Moscow, Idaho, the Aggies reported.
UCD (6-1), off to its best start since 1912, led 38-30 at halftime. In the first half, the Aggies shot 56.5 percent and had an eight-rebound edge. But in the second half, UCD shot 33.3 percent, and the Vandals (4-3) finished with a 35-34 rebounding advantage.
The Aggies led 57-54 with 7:27 to play, but they went scoreless for the next 3:51. Idaho scored 10 points in that span to take control.
“We had a really good opportunity to win this road game, and we lost it,” UCD coach Jim Les said. “This is not on anybody else but us. I do not think today’s defensive intensity and execution matched what it has been recently.

“If we play as aggressive as we should, and the other team beats us, then we will tip our cap.”
The Vandals scored 25 points off 16 Aggies turnovers.
Hawkins made 6 of 10 three-point attempts in his sixth career game with 30 or more points. Josh Ritchart added 14 points and six rebounds for UCD.
UC Irvine 74, Sacramento State 62 in Irvine – The Hornets (4-3) were outscored 46-18 in the paint and lost their second in a row.
The Anteaters (4-3) maintained a double-digit lead for the final 15 minutes. They scored 19 points off 15 Sac State turnovers.
Dylan Garrity made four three-pointers and had 18 points for the Hornets, and Mikh McKinney scored 17.
No. 17 Oregon State 109, Sacramento State 61 in Corvallis, Ore. – The Beavers (7-0) led by double figures for all but the first 31/2 minutes and set a school record for assists with 40 in routing the Hornets (1-6), Sac State reported.
The Hornets shot only 23.3 percent (20 for 86) and sank only 11 of 49 three-point attempts. Hallie Gennett led Sac State with 19 points.
UC Davis 76, Southern Utah 53 in Colorado Springs, Colo. – Alyson Doherty had 20 points to help the Aggies (4-4) beat the Thunderbirds (4-1) in the Air Force Classic, UCD reported.
Sydnee Fipps added 16 points and nine rebounds for the Aggies, who split two games in the tournament.
