For the first time in school history, Sacramento State is ranked in CollegeInsider.com’s Mid-Major Top 25 men’s basketball poll.

The Hornets (11-6), who beat No. 14 Eastern Washington 90-77 on Saturday to take over first place in the Big Sky Conference, are ranked No. 25.

They take the spot held last week by UC Davis (14-3), the Big West Conference leader now ranked 17th.

CollegeInsider.com has published its Mid-Major Top 25 for 16 years.

No. 1 Gonzaga, which beat Sac State earlier in the season, also is No. 3 in this week’s Associated Press Top 25.

Weekly honors – Sac State senior guards Mikh McKinney and Fantasia Hilliard were named the Big Sky Players of the Week on Monday.

McKinney scored a career-high 32 points – 27 in the second half – in a 79-76 win over Idaho, then had a career-high 12 assists and scored 14 points in the Eastern Washington win.

Hilliard averaged 18.5 points, 3.5 assists and 3.0 steals in wins over Idaho and Eastern Washington that lifted the Hornets women into first place in the Big Sky.
