Grant Dressler scored a game-high 16 points and Jeff Wu added 13, but the Sacramento State men’s basketball team lost to the Philippines 88-69 on Tuesday in the fourth round of the William Jones Cup in New Taipei City, Taiwan.
The Hornets are 1-3 in the eight-game, nine-day, nine-team tournament. They defeated India in the tournament opener before losing to South Korea, Iran and the Philippines.
The Philippines outscored the Hornets 31-12 in the second quarter and had a 48-6 advantage in free-throw attempts to improve to 3-0. After the Hornets led 19-12 with 4:35 left in the first quarter, the Philippines went on a 26-6 run to close the half with a 54-35 lead. The Hornets were called for 22 more fouls than the Philippines (33-11).
