U.S. Senior Open tee times announced for first two rounds

Crowd favorites will start early and late Thursday and Friday during the first two rounds of the upcoming U.S. Senior Open, giving fans at Del Paso Country Club plenty of viewing options during the expected 13 hours of golf each day.

The United States Golf Association released groupings and tee times for the 156-player field Saturday.

The morning wave Thursday features the threesome of Tom Watson, Ian Woosnam and Fred Couples starting at 7:52 a.m. off the 10th tee. They will be followed by Rocco Mediate, John Cook and Fred Funk.

El Dorado Hills’ Bob Niger will strike the first shot off the first tee at 7 a.m. There is a two-tee start Thursday and Friday.

The afternoon wave Thursday features defending champion Colin Montgomerie, Bernhard Langer and reigning U.S. Senior Amateur champion Patrick Tallent starting at 1:27 p.m. off the first tee. They will be followed by Kevin Sutherland of Sacramento, Paul Goydos and Duffy Waldorf.

Four exempt players withdrew: Vijay Singh, Hal Sutton, Tom Kite and Paul Mayo. They were replaced by Miguel Angel Martin and amateurs Dave Ryan, Dave Delich and Mark Sanchez.
