Emilee Hoffman of Folsom shot a 72 on Thursday to finish with a 5-under-par 279 and win the girls title at the Big “I” National Championship at Del Paso Country Club.
Hoffman’s final round included four birdies and five bogies. Leila Dizon of Los Angeles finished second, five shots behind Hoffman.
“I really played smart golf today,” Hoffman, a Vista del Lago High School graduate who will play at Texas this fall, said in a news release. “Once again, just keeping the ball in play off the tee. This is my last junior golf tournament, so it feels really good to close it out with a win.”
Jacob Bergeron of Slidell, La., shot a 64 to finish at 18-under 266 and win the boys title. Nicholas Lyerly of Salisbury, N.C., was second with a 274.
The Big “I” is the third-oldest junior golf event in the country, and this year’s field included golfers from 39 states who advanced from qualifying tournaments.
