Tyree Marcelle rushed for 262 yards and two touchdowns on 29 carries and No. 5 Grant held on for a 21-20 win over upset-minded Pleasant Grove in the Delta League game Friday night in Del Paso Heights.
Cam Davis scored on a quarterback sneak for Grant (5-1, 2-1) and the Eagles missed an extra point in nearly staging the area’s third epic upset this season.
Sacramento beat then-No. 1 Folsom 32-27 and winless Davis upset then-No. 3 Elk Grove 16-14.
Pleasant Grove (0-6, 0-3) has lost 7-0 to Cosumnes Oaks, 35-20 to No. 7 Jesuit and 35-16 to No. 14 Monterey Trail.

No. 9 Oak Ridge 27, No. 6 Rocklin 15 in Rocklin – Quarterback Marco Baldacchino had touchdown runs of 62 and 38 yards and running back Michael Pittman also rushed for two touchdowns, including a back-breaking 96-yarder in the fourth quarter, as the Trojans ruined the Thunder’s homecoming night in the Sierra Foothill League game. Justin Poerio and Cameron Stone had fourth-quarter interceptions for Oak Ridge (5-1, 2-0). Cade Wyant threw touchdown passes of 44 yards and 37 yards to Kier Gibson-Adams and Trevor Barnes, respectively, for Rocklin (4-2, 1-1).
No. 8 Antelope 42, No. 11 Roseville 7 in Roseville – Nick Spagnola completed 5 of 9 passes for 289 yards and touchdowns of 84, 50, 41 yards and 9 yards, respectively, to Elijah Dotson, Garrett Champman, Brandon Sanders and Khalil Curtis. Dotson added a 78-yard touchdown run as the Titans (6-0, 3-0) cruised over the Tigers (5-1, 2-1) in a Capital Valley Conference battle. Dotson had 238 total yards and Chapman 192.
No. 10 Whitney 45, Ponderosa 7 in Shingle Springs – Up 17-0 early, Jason Sanchez rushed 10 yards for a score and Jake Cruz threw an 11-yard touchdown pass to Willie Brocchini as the Wildcats (5-1, 3-0) took a 31-7 halftime lead over the Bruins (2-4, 1-2), then coasted in the Capital Valley Conference contest.
Davis 24, No. 13 Sheldon 21 at Sheldon HS – Ish Perez rushed for a 5-yard touchdown with five minutes to play in the third quarter, then the Blue Devils (2-4, 2-1) held off the Huskies (4-2, 1-2) in the Delta League contest. Chancellor LaChapelle threw 70- and 45-yard touchdowns to Alex Cook, and Oscar Gutierrez returned a kickoff 90 yards for a score for Sheldon. The Huskies led 21-14 late in the second quarter before Davis’ Chris Johnson booted a 40-yard field goal.
No. 16 Inderkum 41, River City 0 in Natomas – Deo Robinson rushed five times for 118 yards and two touchdowns to stake the Tigers to a 28-0 halftime lead, then DeAngelo Morgan rushed for touchdowns of 60 and 8 yards as the Tigers (4-2, 3-0) rolled over the Raiders (4-3, 1-2) in the Tri-County Conference game. Davion Ross had a 14-yard touchdown run and Trajon Cotton threw a 42-yard touchdown pass to Tarik Bible to round out Inderkum’s scoring. Inderkum has compiled a 49-1 league record since 2007.
Marysville 42, No. 20 Dixon 22 in Dixon – Chase Tarr rushed for four touchdowns and Taryn Dolan added two rushing touchdowns as the Indians (5-2, 2-1) beat the Rams (4-2, 2-1) in the Golden Empire League showdown.
Oakmont 37, Bella Vista 17 in Fair Oaks – Jake Knapp threw touchdown passes of 65 and 2 yards and also booted a 29-yard field goal and Bobby Hills rushed for two touchdowns as the Vikings (4-2, 1-2) downed the Broncos (0-6, 0-3) in the Capital Valley Conference contest.
Lincoln 27, Bear River 14 in Lake of the Pines – The Fighting Zebras (3-3, 1-0) took advantage of 80- and 67-yard drives to top the Bruins (2-4, 0-1) in the Pioneer Valley League opener. Stephen Taylor had a 25-yard touchdown run and caught a 4-yard touchdown pass from Bradley Dzioba for Bear River.
Placer 49, Colfax 21 in Colfax – Ryan Kerrigan rushed for 112 yards and scored five touchdowns to lead the Hillmen (2-4, 1-0) over the Falcons (4-2, 0-1) in the Pioneer Valley League opener. Colfax quarterback Ryland Heimann, who replaced injured starter Austin Weir, passed for 159 yards and a touchdown for the Falcons.
Woodcreek 34, Nevada Union 32 in Roseville – Matt Gordon caught a 78-yard touchdown pass from Andrew Knapp and also rushed for a touchdown in the Sierra Foothill League win for the Timberwolves (3-4, 1-2) over the Miners (2-5, 0-3). Tyler England had a 54-yard touchdown run, Isaiah Ajayi a 32-yard scoring dash and Dylan Carlson a 39-yard field goal for the Timberwolves. Tyler Nielson scored four touchdowns and Hayden Fay caught a 65-yard touchdown pass from Owen Dal Bon for the Miners.
Cosumnes Oaks 42, Del Campo 27 in Elk Grove – Austin Greer threw touchdown passes of 80, 30 and 17 yards, respectively, to Dajon Keola, Marque Collins and Kahlef Hailassie, and Chase Nelson rushed for touchdowns of 48 and 8 yards as the Wolfpack (4-2, 2-1) defeated the Cougars (2-4, 0-3) in the Capital Valley Conference contest. Tyler Dimino threw three touchdown passes, including a 97-yarder to David Joseph for Del Campo.
El Dorado 55, Rosemont 14 in Rosemont – Aaron Golmitz hit Chris Volek for four touchdown passes and the defense dominated as the Cougars (5-1, 1-0) rolled over the Wolverines (1-5, 0-1) in a Sierra Valley Conference opener.
River Valley 36, Woodland 16 in Woodland – Dawson McPeak threw touchdown passes of 44 and 36 yards to Jojo Penn; Dylan De La Vega rushed for 183 yards and a touchdown on 19 carries; and Isaiah Uriostegui rushed for two touchdowns to lead the Falcons (2-4, 2-0) over the Wolves (3-3, 0-2) in the Tri-County Conference game.
Lindhurst 43, West Campus 7 in Olivehurst – The Blazers (3-3, 2-1) jumped to a 36-7 halftime lead en route to an easy win over the Warriors (3-3, 0-2) in the Golden Empire League contest
Cordova 46, Galt 0 in Rancho Cordova – Xavier Johnson threw touchdowns passes to Angel Garcia, Kenneth Haney, Alvin Banks and Isaiah Wimberly, and Raymond Fite returned a punt 40 yards for a score as the Lancers (4-2, 1-0) downed the Warriors (3-3, 0-1) in the Sierra Valley League opener.
Sutter 70, Oroville 0 in Sutter – Tyler Reynolds threw three touchdown passes and rushed for another; Trever Facey rushed for three touchdowns; and Carson Reyes had an 82-yard touchdown run to lead the Huskies (6-0, 1-0) over the Tigers (0-6, 0-1) in the Butte View League opener.
Winters 48, Live Oak 12 in Winters – Sammy Gonzales scored three touchdowns, including one on a kickoff return, and Logan Ray had an 8-yard touchdown run and an interception that set up another score as the Warriors (2-4, 1-0) defeated the Lions (1-6, 0-1) on homecoming in the Sacramento Valley League game.
East Nicolaus 54, Williams 8 in Nicolaus – Steven Brown threw three touchdown passes, two to James Barker, and also ran 40 yards for a touchdown; Nolan Goyet rushed for three touchdowns and recovered a fumble and Corey Taylor returned an interception 53 yards to lead the Spartans (6-0, 1-0) over the Yellowjackets (3-3, 0-1) in the Mid-Valley League Northern Section opener.
