Led by McClatchy High School cheerleaders, a line of classic cars – including a bright red 1921 Graham Brothers Motor Works fire engine – carried the history-making Lady Lions Division I state girls basketball champions Friday afternoon through the streets of Land Park. Residents, some on their home balconies, lined the parade route, shouting and cheering their support. The players’ classmates, family members and friends followed the procession, snapping pictures, giving high-fives and honking horns. McClatchy defeated Serra of Gardena 65-61 on March 27 at UC Berkeley’s Haas Pavilion to win the state title. The Lions became the first girls team in the Sacramento City Unified School District to win a state championship in any sport.
