High school football Player of the Week: Lenny Nelson, Woodcreek

Lenny Nelson, Woodcreek

Senior Lenny Nelson balances the field for the Timberwolves, off to a school-record 5-1 start. With Nelson on one side and Malcolm Thomas, the team’s leading receiver on the other, defenses have had their hands full. In Woodcreek’s 42-12 victory over Nevada Union last week, Nelson caught eight passes for 146 yards and two touchdowns and returned a punt 39 yards for a score, earning The Bee’s Player of the Week honors in voting on sacbee.com. In six games this season, he has 23 catches for 367 yards. “He’s a high-character guy, a strong leader,” coach Jason Stowers said. “He and Malcolm are a great support network for each other.” Nelson, a three-sport athlete, is one of the Sac-Joaquin Section’s best jumpers in track and field.
