Tyrik Ceasar, Whitney
Ceasar started the 2014 season with modest hopes of leading Whitney High School’s junior varsity football team to a league championship and learning about the varsity level by watching starting quarterback Hunter Rodrigues. By Oct. 3, Ceasar was elevated to the varsity to help the 0-6 Wildcats, who had been riddled with injuries, including a broken collarbone suffered by Rodrigues. Ceasar accounted for four touchdowns to lead Whitney past Oakmont 41-6 Friday, earning him The Bee’s Player of the Week honors in voting on sacbee.com. The sophomore posted modest passing yards (143) against Oakmont, but three of his six completions went for touchdowns, and his one rush went for 18 yards and a score. And for the first time, the Wildcats celebrated. “He’s played well and he’s taken to this,” Whitney coach Mike Gimenez said. “He’s got me fired up.”
