Prep of the Week: Zach Lewin of Rio Americano

Things are looking up for Rio Americano’s football team, which is fitting for Zach Lewin.

The senior is always looking up and around for the ball as a playmaker for the Raiders. Lewin caught two touchdown passes from quarterback Sam Adams, ran for another score and returned a punt for a touchdown to highlight a 58-0 win over Pioneer last Friday.

Lewin’s performance earned him Prep of the Week honors through fan voting on sacbee.com.

The Pioneer victory took place at Del Campo, where the Raiders play some of their home games to provide a night-game experience for the players and Rio Americano fans. Otherwise, the Raiders play Saturday afternoon games on campus.

The Raiders (2-2) already have equaled their combined win total of the previous two seasons under third-year coach Michael Willis. Rio Americano seeks its first winning season since 2008.

The Raiders next play Highlands on Sept. 30 and rival El Camino on Oct. 7, both at Del Campo.
