A 6-foot, 205-pound senior from Rocklin High School, Rakela turned in the best football game of his career Friday, rushing 30 times for 242 yards and four touchdowns. The Thunder needed every yard to hold off Nevada Union 48-35 in a league opener.

Rakela had rushing totals of 33 and 19 yards in Rocklin’s first two games, then went for 144 yards on 33 carries in an 18-17 win over Whitney in the Quarry Bowl. He averaged 8.1 yards a carry against Nevada Union, the highlight coming on an 80-yard score. His four touchdowns were his first of the season. He has 514 yards rushing for the No. 3 Thunder (4-1), which lost on a late play to No. 2 Grant in Rocklin’s season opener.
Rocklin has a bye this week and hosts No. 9 Oak Ridge on Oct. 7 and No. 2 Del Oro on Oct. 14.
