Kaiden Bennett is the next quarterback leader for Folsom High School, following in the cleat marks of some of the region’s most accomplished statistical marvels, ever.

But Bennett hasn’t been asked to be the next Cary Grossart, or Dano Graves, or Tanner Trosin, or Jake Browning, or Jake Jeffrey, or Joe Curry.

He’s been instructed to be Kaiden Bennett. Play your game, in other words.

The junior dazzled in his varsity debut on Friday, completing 7 of 8 passes – all in the first half – for 208 yards and three touchdowns, two to Brandon Rupchock. That keyed a 56-8 halftime lead that led to a 56-33 rout of Coeur d’Alene, the No. 2 ranked team in Idaho.

Bennett also rushed twice for 34 yards in showcasing his dual-threat ability. He is The Bee’s Prep Football Player of the Week as voted by fans and followers on sacbee.com. Bennett received 54 percent of the 14,186 votes. Del Oro’s Josh Gazzaniga was runner-up with 35 percent of the votes.

Top-ranked Folsom hosts No. 3 Jesuit on Friday night.
