Justin Poerio is one of those guys coaches make absolutely sure is on the team bus for road games.

The versatile standout is just that valuable.

The Oak Ridge High School senior was up to old tricks last Friday, playing a vital role as the No. 3-ranked Trojans rallied to beat host Vacaville 24-23. He earned Bee Prep Football Player of the Week honors through polling at sacbee.com. Poerio commanded 56.7 percent of the 30,115 votes; Christian Brothers’ Gunnor Faulk was second with 19.1 percent.

Poerio was everywhere. He caught six passes from Marco Baldacchino for 127 yards and two touchdowns, ran four times for 30 yards, boomed a 37-yard field goal and three PATs.

He also made five tackles on defense, knocked down a pass and had six punts, averaging 41.3 yards. He put five kickoffs into the end zone and successfully made a late onside kick that led to victory.

He was a Bee All-Metro performer last season and is generating recruiting interest.
