James Sweet is described by his Lincoln High School football coach Chris Bean as, “this goofy, forgetful, talented, hardworking young man.”
In other words, the kid is not boring.
Sweet was at his football best on Friday, keying a 23-22 victory over Nevada Union in Grass Valley to give the Zebras a 2-1 record. He was selected as The Bee’s Prep Football Player of the Week through a poll on sacbee.com, receiving 61 percent of the votes.
A 5-foot-11 senior, Sweet rushed for 95 yards on seven carries, including a 51-yard touchdown sprint. He also had 10 catches from quarterback Tommy Turner for 176 yards, including the game winner. Sweet is third in the state with 492 receiving yards, according to MaxPreps statistics input by coaches.
