‘Weapons at Folsom’s disposal are crazy’: Can upstarts upset unbeatens in Delta, SFL?

The Bee’s Joe Davidson takes a quick peek at five Friday night high school football games of note (kickoffs between 7-7:30 p.m.).

No. 7 Rocklin (6-2) at No. 1 Folsom (8-0) – Rocklin can win a share of the Sierra Foothill League championship if it sweeps Folsom and Granite Bay in the final weeks of the regular season, but as Thunder defensive coordinator Jason Adams said this week, “The weapons at Folsom’s disposal are crazy,” and that includes the Ngata brothers – Joe and Daniyel.

No. 6 Jesuit (6-2) at No. 12 Monterey Trail (5-3) – This game needs a name, so how about the Veer Bowl? Coaches Marlon Blanton of the visiting Marauders and T.J. Ewing of the Mustangs remain loyal to the run-heavy offense that scores in bunches, as Delta League opponents know all too well.

No. 9 Franklin (6-2) vs. Elk Grove (4-4) at Cosumnes Oaks High – Franklin can issue a knockout blow to the Thundering Herd’s playoff hopes in what figures to be a fast and fun one. The Wildcats went 5-5 last season and returned a ton of starters.

No. 15 Placer (7-1) at Bear River (6-2) – The Pioneer Valley League is a rumble to the finish, and that includes these traditional powers who are big on the run and feed on big hits on defense.

Capital Christian (5-3) at Natomas (5-3) – This Golden Empire League contest with championship implications features skill players galore, including Adrian Torres of Natomas, who has 28 touchdown passes, and defensive stars Maurice Gaines and D’Marcus Ross of Capital.
