One of the players to look for in the playoffs: Ryan Robards of Elk Grove Special to The Bee

Ryan Robards was a one-man machine last Friday night in Del Paso Heights.

The Elk Grove senior turned what was expected to be a tightly contested Delta League showdown against Grant into a 42-7 rout over the Pacers with six touchdowns to run away with The Bee’s Prep Football Player of the Week honors through voting by fans and followers.

Robards scored on three runs, a 62-yard interception return, a 19-yard fumble return and a 75-yard punt return. He rushed for 187 yards and also kicked and punted.

“Just trying to help my team any way I can,” Robards said afterward. “I told a couple of (teammates before the game) this was the time for me to prove the kind of football player I really am. We have a great team. It’s the line, it’s my teammates that do so much.”

Said Grant coach Mike Alberghini: “(Robards) is a hell of a player, and that’s a great team.”

Robards leads Elk Grove in rushing yards with 943 and touchdowns with 19. He also has kicked a school-record 51-yard field goal this season and is averaging 50.6 yards per punt.
