At a small school like Valley Christian Academy in Roseville, playing multiple sports isn’t just encouraged, it’s embraced.

Senior Tyler Stoever plays football, basketball and golf, and his effort last Friday helped the Lions win their first football game of the season.

Stoever had 12 tackles, returned an interception 51 yards for a score and ran for another touchdown in the Lions’ 34-12 victory over Delta to earn The Bee’s Prep Football Player of the Week in voting on sacbee.com.

A 6-foot-9 defensive end, Stoever has had games with 11, 22, 11 and 12 tackles. As a junior, he averaged 9.3 points for the basketball team.

Valley Christian Academy, which lost its opener 20-14 to Encina and came up short in a 29-28 last-second loss to Foresthill, was 0-5 before beating Delta. With three games remaining in the Sacramento Metropolitan Athletic League, a playoff berth is still within its reach.
