Roundup: Sheldon football equals last season’s win total already

Life is good when you’re 2-0, and that’s what’s happening at Sheldon High School.

Under first-year coach Joe Cattolico, enthusiasm and victories are up. The Huskies routed Casa Roble 50-7 on Friday night as Chance LaChapelle hit Alex Cook for touchdown strikes of 59, 49 and 26 yards to exceed the victory total of 2014 and equal last year’s effort.

Cattolico built nearby Pleasant Grove into a powerhouse, then took the 2014 and 2015 seasons off to evaluate his next coaching stop.

No. 1 Folsom 42, No. 5 Jesuit 28 in Folsom – The Bulldogs overcame three first-half turnovers and two Calvin Brownholtz touchdown passes, including an 89-yarder to Jonathon Amadi, to extend their regular-season winning streak to 47 and their winning streak against Sac-Joaquin Section competition to 51.

Davin Simmons, Brandon Rupchock, Eric Davis and Joe Curry accounted for all of Folsom’s touchdowns.

No. 2 Del Oro 29, Pleasant Valley 9 in Loomis – Stone Smartt threw a 59-yard touchdown pass to Mason Hurst and another scoring strike to Andrew Birch, and Camrion Davis rushed 51 yards for a touchdown as the Golden Eagles (2-0) beat the top-ranked team in the Northern Section.

Del Oro will travel to defending CIF Division-I NorCal champion Bellarmine Prep of San Jose on Friday.

No. 4 Grant 42, No. 9 Burbank 14 in Del Paso Heights – Lawrence Hardy returned an interception 15 yards for a touchdown, returned a punt 65 yards for a score and caught a 64-yard touchdown pass from Cam Davis as the Pacers (2-0) routed the rival Titans (0-2). Nate Thomas had two interceptions for Grant, returning one 72 yards for a touchdown.

No. 6 Rocklin 28, Napa 16 in Rocklin – Michael Nolan threw touchdown passes of 55 yards to Trey Overton and 11 yards to Kier Gibson-Adams and also rushed for an 11-yard score to lead the Thunder (1-1) over the Indians (1-1). Rocklin had two second-quarter interceptions, including a 17-yard return for a score by Gavin Janis.

No. 7 Oak Ridge 41, Vacaville 15 in El Dorado Hills – Marco Baldacchino rushed for three touchdowns and threw for two more, and Cameron Stone had two interceptions for the Trojans (2-0).

No. 14 Whitney 41, No. 8 Granite Bay 21 in Granite Bay – Preston Eklund threw four touchdown passes, including a 49-yarder to David Owens and a 30-yarder to Justin Kraft, and Mark Clark rushed for a 40-yard touchdown as the Wildcats (2-0) defeated the Grizzlies (0-2).

No. 12 Antelope 56, Lincoln 17 in Antelope – Nick Spagnola passed for a school-record 357 yards and had two touchdown passes, including an 88-yarder to Elijah Dotson, who rushed for 168 yards and a score to power the Titans (2-0) past the Fighting Zebras (0-2).

No. 17 Monterey Trail 48, No. 16 Del Campo 21 in Fair Oaks – Bishop Brown and William Madsen returned interceptions for touchdowns, and Robert Holt accounted for two scores as the Mustangs (2-0) beat the Cougars (1-1).

No. 18 Vista del Lago 34, Ponderosa 27 in Shingle Springs – Brent Schaeffer threw for 451 yards and five touchdowns, three to Blake Tuter, to rally the Eagles (1-1) over the Bruins (1-1).

Nevada Union 16, No. 19 Placer 12 in Auburn – The Miners scored 16 points in a three-minute span early in the fourth quarter on 72- and 50-yard touchdown passes from Owen Dal Bon to Logan Siemers as Nevada Union (1-1) rallied from a 12-0 deficit to top the Hillmen (0-2).

No. 20 Roseville 42, Rio Linda 23 in Rio Linda – Brendan McMinn rushed for touchdowns of 12 and seven yards and caught a 34-yard touchdown pass, and Jay Razzano rushed for two touchdowns to lead the Tigers (2-0) over the Knights (0-2).

Woodcreek 31, Davis 21 in Davis – Isaiah Ajayi scored two touchdowns, and Tyler England had a 95-yard touchdown burst as the Timberwolves (1-1) downed the Blue Devils (0-2).

Capital Christian 46, Modesto Christian 20 in Rosemont – D’Marcus Ross rushed for four touchdowns and returned an interception 39 yards for a score, and Austin Alexander had a 40-yard touchdown catch from Jacob Norville and also intercepted two passes to lead the Cougars (2-0) over the Crusaders (0-2) in the sixth annual Fish Bowl.

Cosumnes Oaks 7, Pleasant Grove 0 in Cosumnes Oaks – Kahlef Hailassie returned a punt 80 yards for a touchdown in the fourth quarter as the Wolfpack (2-0) defeated the Eagles (0-2).

Oakmont 24, Foothill 21 in Roseville – Jake Knapp threw two touchdown passes, returned a fumbled punt 41 yards for a score and booted a 30-yard field goal with 37 seconds remaining, then the Vikings (2-0) blocked a field-goal attempt with 2.8 seconds left to beat the Mustangs (1-1).

Bear River 40, Union Mine 0 in Grass Valley – Bradley Dzioba threw three touchdown passes, including a 44-yarder to Stephen Taylor, and Austin Baze had a 90-yard touchdown run as the Bruins (1-1) downed the Diamondbacks (0-2).

Colfax 39, Winters 28 in Winters – Mason Ahrens rushed for touchdowns of 75 and 40 yards, and Austin Weir threw touchdown passes of 46 and 18 yards to Nick Van Doorn as the Falcons (2-0) topped the Warriors (1-1) for the first time since 1970.

Highlands 24, Lindhurst 15 in North Highlands – Darian Houston passed for three touchdowns, and Gerald Davis caught two touchdown passes and ran for one as the Scots topped the Blazers in the season opener for both teams.
