Republic FC will play a friendly against the Earthquakes on Feb. 25 at Avaya Stadium in San Jose.

It will be the sixth meeting between Republic FC and its former Major League Soccer affiliate.

“It is always exciting to be pitched against close rivals, and our rivalry with San Jose continues to remain healthy,” said Republic FC director of football Graham Smith in a release. “From our players’ point of view, it is an opportunity to compete against players who generally operate at a higher level, and, for fans of both teams, it is an opportunity to see the stages of development their squads are at.”

The clubs have met in a preseason friendly in each of the past three seasons, as well as twice in the U.S. Open Cup fourth round. San Jose has won all five meetings.

Multiple Earthquakes players were loaned to Republic FC during the clubs’ three-year partnership, including Sacramento-area natives Tommy Thompson and Adam Jahn, now with the Columbus Crew.

Republic FC midfielder JJ Koval was also loaned to Republic FC on several occasions before eventually signing with the USL club before the 2016 season.

The Earthquakes now have an affiliation with Reno 1868 FC, which begins play this season.

Tickets will go on sale to the general public on Wednesday at 10 a.m. on Ticketmaster.com.
