Republic FC has rescheduled its USL Pro home opener against LA Galaxy II from March 28 to April 11 because of delays in the second phase of expansion of Bonney Field.
Republic FC instead will play Galaxy II in Carson on March 28 after the teams agreed to switch home dates.
“Although we may still complete the additional seating on the west side by the end of March, we felt we were leaving little room for error in our timelines should a delay of any kind take place in the next two weeks,” Republic FC president Warren Smith said in a statement.
The west side expansion will add approximately 1,300 seats and relocate the main restrooms. The expansion of the north end-line seating was completed Feb. 20.
Sac State removes Macriss’ ‘interim’ AD tag
Bill Macriss has been hired as Sacramento State’s athletic director, university president Alexander Gonzalez announced today, citing the Hornets’ “unprecedented” success on and off the field.
Macriss had been the interim athletic director since replacing Terry Wanless on July 1, 2014. Macriss was deputy director of athletics before replacing Wanless, who retired.
Gonzalez said athletes at the university had a historic-best cumulative grade-point average above 3.0 and that 127 had attained GPAs higher than a 3.5 during the fall semester.
Gonzalez also cited Macriss’ work in bringing the United States Track and Field Outdoor Championships to Hornet Stadium in 2014 and the selection of Sac State as a regional host for early-round NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament games for 2017 at the new downtown arena.
Hornet men have 7-shot lead in own tournament
▪ The host Hornets will take a seven-shot lead over Pacific into Tuesday’s final round of the 16-team Sacramento State Intercollegiate men’s golf tournament at Valley Hi. Sac State’s Robert Parden leads with a 36-hole total of 6-under-par 138. The Hornets’ Luke Kristo (142) is third, and Aaron Beverly (145) is tied for sixth.
▪ The UC Davis women are fourth among 13 teams after two rounds of the Bay Area Intercollegiate in Fairfax, UCD reported. Betty Chen’s two-round total of par 142 leads the Aggies.
