Republic FC signs four new players

Republic FC has agreed to contracts with defenders Derek Foran and Matthias Bonvehi and forwards Adnan Gabeljic and Joaquin Rivas. Gabeljic’s contract is pending receipt of his International Transfer Certificate.

Foran last played with St. Patrick’s Athletic in the League of Ireland Premier Division. Overall, he spent the past eight seasons in the Premier Division with stints at Shamrock Rovers, Dundalk FC and Sligo Rovers.

Foran and Republic FC forward Thomas Stewart were teammates at Shamrock Rovers during the 2013 season.

Bonvehi helped his previous club, Stallion FC, win the United Football League Cup in the Philippines. The defender has played in Germany, Argentina and Montenegro. Bonvehi played college soccer at Cal State Northridge.

Gabeljic played for both the USL Oklahoma City Energy FC and NK Rudes, a Croatian club team, during the 2014 season. The Saint Louis University graduate was selected 37th overall in the 2014 MLS SuperDraft by Sporting KC.

Rivas, a former UNLV player, was a member of the Premier Development Kitsap Pumas of Bremerton, Wash., last season.

All have been trialists for Republic FC.

Last week, Republic FC signed defender Bilal Duckett and midfielders Gabe Gonzalez and Alfonso Motagalvan and Zev Taublieb.

Duckett (Charlotte Eagles), Gonzalez (Orange County Blues FC) and Motagalvan (Pittsburgh River Hounds) played in the USL last season. Taublieb is a first-year pro from Valparaiso University who spent time with the Seattle Sounders U23 team in 2014.

Duckett was a third-round draft pick of the Vancouver Whitecaps FC in 2011 and also played for the New England Revolution.

In addition to playing the past two seasons for the River Hounds, Motagalvan has spent time with Fort Lauderdale Strikers (North American Soccer League), Rochester Rhinos (USL) and Ventura County Fusion (PDL).

Republic FC now has 23 players under contract, including 14 from last season’s USL championship team.
