Republic FC scored the go-ahead goal in the final seconds of Saturday night’s road match against Rio Grande Valley FC to secure a 2-1 win and three points in the USL standings.
A header by Carlos Rodriguez broke a 1-1 tie in stoppage time after being subbed in at the 90th minute.
The match was scoreless until Rio Grande Valley scored in the 70th minute on a goal by Kyle Murphy.
Just two minutes later, Sacramento knotted the score with a hard strike from Villyan Bijev.
The celebration was immediate.
Even with the victory, Republic FC still finds itself No. 6 in the USL Western Conference standings, trailing Tulsa by a point with seven matches left in the regular season. The top four teams in each conference host first-round USL playoff matches.
Republic FC plays its next four matches on its home pitch at Papa Murphy’s Park, starting next Saturday at 7:30 p.m. against the Los Angeles Galaxy II.
