Klimenta, Lopez big in Republic FC’s win over LA Galaxy II

REPUBLIC FC 3,

LA GALAXY II 1

Performance of the match: Emrah Klimenta, who grew up playing forward but converted to a defender with Republic FC, scored the team’s second goal in the 27th minute on a wicked shot from the right side. He also assisted on midfielder Rodrigo Lopez’s goal that opened the scoring in the 22nd minute. “I love Preki’s system, and I love the way we play because it involves me in the offense and the defense,” Klimenta said.

Republic FC’s X factor: Lopez, who also assisted on David Estrada’s goal in the 45th minute, has six goals in two seasons against the Galaxy II.

Back in action: Forward Justin Braun (abdominal strain) returned after a two-match absence and started. Defender Nemanja Vukovic (sports hernia) and midfielder Max Alvarez (pelvis injury) made their season debuts, entering in the second half.

Owning the Galaxy II: Republic FC (2-2-0) is 5-1-1 against the Galaxy II (0-3-1).

Next up: vs. Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2, 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Bonney Field.
