Republic FC match postponed by fire rescheduled for Monday

The USL Pro soccer match between Republic FC and Orange County Blues FC, postponed Friday by the wildfire that burned near Bonney Field at Cal Expo, will be played Monday.

Gates are scheduled to open at 6 p.m., with kickoff set for 7:30 p.m.

The team announced the new date in a news release Saturday morning.

Tickets for Friday’s match will be honored Monday, the release states.

Monday’s match also can be watched live at SacRepublicFC.com/matchday.

The match was postponed because smoke caused by the 40-acre blaze that burned Friday afternoon and evening created poor air quality that would have been unhealthy for players and fans.

Fans whose tickets have been lost or destroyed, or who wish to exchange their tickets, should call (916) 307-6100.

The wildfire behind Cal Expo remains under investigation, Sacramento Fire Department Chief Walt White said Saturday. The blaze prompted evacuation of about 3,350 people from Raging Waters water park and initially threatened Friday night’s fireworks display.
