Republic FC looks to extend streak tonight at Bonney Field

Republic FC can extend its home league USL Pro unbeaten streak to 10 matches when it plays the Wilmington Hammerheads at Bonney Field tonight at 8 p.m.

With a victory, third-place Republic FC (14-6-3) also will earn a first-round home playoff match.

Sacramento, which qualified for the postseason last weekend, has a six-match league unbeaten streak after crushing the Orange County Blues FC 6-1 on Sunday at UC Irvine. Forward Thomas Stewart came off the bench to score three second-half goals, and midfielder Max Alvarez had two assists.

Wilmington (6-6-8), which has lost four matches in a row, is in 12th place but still has eight league matches to play. The Hammerheads will host Republic FC on Aug. 30 in North Carolina.

Republic FC signed midfielder Agustin Cazarez and forward Ismar Tandir prior to Tuesday’s USL Pro roster freeze deadline.

Cazarez appeared in 12 matches for the Ventura County Fusion, a USL fourth-tier team. Tandir had 11 goals in 19 matches last season with the French side FC Sochaux’s B team. He is a former New York Red Bulls Academy player.

Republic FC also announced that George Fochive and Alvas Powell, on loan from the Timbers, have been recalled by Portland. Fochive played in 12 matches and Powell three before suffering injuries in July.
