Republic FC will host the Colorado Rapids of Major League Soccer in a preseason friendly Feb. 13 at Bonney Field.

The Rapids will join the San Jose Earthquakes as the only MLS teams to play Republic FC in Sacramento. In 2014, Republic FC played the Rapids’ reserve team in the first match at Bonney Field.

The Rapids, founded in 1996, are one of the original 10 MLS franchises. Colorado won the MLS Cup in 2010 and reached the finals in 1997. The Rapids have qualified for the MLS playoffs 12 times in their 20 seasons, but they were last in the Western Conference this season with a 9-15-10 record.

“Sacramento Republic FC is an incredible organization and one of the best-run clubs in USL,” said Tim Hinchey, the Colorado Rapids’ president and a former Sacramento Kings executive. “It is essential that we begin our year on the right foot, and I believe this friendly match will do just that. I am confident that Sacramento Republic FC will help us prepare as we look ahead toward the 2016 season.”
