No victory for Kyle Larson, but he extends his Cup series lead

He didn’t win Sunday, but Kyle Larson added to his points lead in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series standings.

The Elk Grove native finished 12th in the GEICO 500 at Talladega Superspeedway, getting a boost from a free pass on Lap 171. The race was won by Ricky Stenhouse Jr., who earned his first career victory on NASCAR’s top circuit.
