The Kings fell to the Western Conference-leading Houston Rockets on Wednesday, and rookie De’Aaron Fox took a fall during the loss that required stitches above his eye.
If that sounds like a rough Valentine’s Day, maybe there’s some consolation: One NBA team showed Sacramento plenty of love.
The Portland Trail Blazers sent custom Valentines via Twitter to all 29 other NBA teams Wednesday. Their message to the Kings conveyed affection of royal proportions.

The Kings responded with a poem and a simple request of Portland:
Roses are red

You guys are a thrill
But next time we play
Please tell Dame to chill

Less than a week ago, Damian Lillard dropped 50 points on the Kings – in three quarters – and gave 19-year-old point guard Fox some praise and credit after the game.
Dame, however, did not “chill” on Valentine’s Day. A few hours after the Trail Blazers’ social-media lovefest, Lillard scored a team-high 44 points to lead Portland past the Golden State Warriors.
As for the Kings, they’ll face the Trail Blazers again Feb. 27 in Portland. Time will tell whether Lillard takes the poem to heart.
Kings Twitter also celebrated Wednesday’s holiday with highlight clips containing a hidden message.
Tough result tonight, but look at the first letter of our each tweet since the game started for a special message.
