Kings stumble late in 98-94 loss to Trail Blazers

Player of the game: CJ McCollum had 35 points, 11 rebounds and nine assists as the Portland Trail Blazers overcame the absence of All-Star Damian Lillard (left plantar fasciitis) to defeat the Kings 98-94 Sunday night at Sleep Train Arena. The Kings allowed 28 points off 23 turnovers.

Turning point: The Kings fell apart in the fourth quarter, looking tired even though they hadn’t played since Wednesday while Portland played Saturday night. Sacramento made only 3 of 22 shots in the fourth quarter.

X-factor: Portland’s bench was extremely effective, led by Meyers Leonard’s 16 points and 11 rebounds. The Kings’ reserves combined to shoot 7 of 23.

Records: Kings 12-18, Trail Blazers 13-20.

Key injuries: Rookie Willie Cauley-Stein (dislocated finger) remains out for the Kings.
