Three things to watch
The 49ers wanted to slowly ease Reuben Foster back into action after he injured his ankle in the season opener. But now NaVorro Bowman’s no longer with the team. Does that alter their plans for Foster? And if the rookie does get into the game, will he see snaps at Bowman’s former “Mike” linebacker spot as well as the “Will” linebacker position that he’s mainly played to this point?
The 49ers have just one fullback on the roster, Kyle Juszczyk, and he won’t play due to a back injury. Coach Kyle Shanahan has said he wants to run the ball more, but that will be hard without a lead blocker. Look for more two-tight end sets and for former Redskins tight end Logan Paulsen to have his busiest game of the season.
Did the quasi-benching Carlos Hyde received in the second half of last week’s game light a fire beneath him? The 49ers are hoping so. Hyde’s focus has tended to wane at times and perhaps the prospect of splitting snaps with rookie Matt Breida has put the veteran in the right frame of mind. Despite a down game last week, Hyde remains on track for his best season.
