Released by the 49ers on Saturday, free-agent linebacker NaVorro Bowman is expected to visit to a team 35 miles north, the Oakland Raiders.
The NFL Network on Sunday reported “strong mutual interest” between Bowman, who is now a free agent, and the Raiders. Bowman has a young family that lives in San Jose.
The 49ers announced on Friday they would cut the four-time All Pro after he became frustrated at the prospect of sitting out some snaps in ames. Bowman, 29, has played more snaps than any other linebacker through five weeks, largely because the 49ers defense has had trouble getting off the field on third downs.
ESPN reported that the 49ers nearly traded Bowman to the New Orleans Saints last week. Bowman, however, wanted to be able to choose from all 31 teams as a free agent.
