Linebacker Reuben Foster is a surprise inactive against the Eagles today after he practiced all week with the rib injury that sidelined him against the Cowboys
Foster twice left that game while clutching his right side. However, an X-ray and MRI revealed no fractures and Foster was a limited participant in practice during the week. He was listed as ‘questionable’ on San Francisco’s injury report.
Brock Coyle will start the game at “Mike” linebacker next to Ray-Ray Armstrong on the weak side. Eric Reid also is expected to be worked in at the weak-side spot.
The 49ers also will be without one of their bookend tackles, Trent Brown, during what promises to be a wet, sloppy and wind-whipped game in Philadelphia. Guard Brandon Fusco (biceps) is active and likely will start at right guard. Rookie Erik Magnuson is active for the first time this season.
Brown suffered a concussion during last week’s loss to the Dallas Cowboys and did not practice during the week. This is the first game he’s missed since he became a starter late in 2015. He took part in a light warm-up Sunday. Garry Gilliam, who started 34 games for the Seattle Seahawks the last three years, will start in his place.
Also out are cornerback K’Waun Williams (quadriceps) and defensive end Aaron Lynch (calf). Veteran Leon Hall is expected to play nickel cornerback in place of Williams today.
The 49ers list newcomer Leger Douzable as their starter at left defensive end. Douzable was signed two weeks ago. Another newcomer, Datone Jones, is active for San Francisco. He’s wearing No. 96.
Fullback Kyle Juszczyk is back after missing the last two games with a back injury. Receiver Marquise Goodwin will play despite a questionable designation with a back injury.
