49ers draft safety Tarvarius Moore, a freakish athlete from Southern Miss, in third round

The 49ers used their second of two third-round picks, No. 95 overall, on defensive back Tarvarius Moore from Southern Mississippi.

Who is he? Moore has freakish size and athleticism, standing 6-2 with long 33-inch arms and running his 40-yard dash at his school's pro day in 4.32 seconds. He also had a broad jump of 11 feet, 1 inch. He played 13 games at safety last season, leading the Golden Eagles with 87 tackles, three for loss, three interceptions and 10 pass breakups.

Where does he fit? Moore played free safety at Southern Mississippi, but the 49ers want to see how he fares at cornerback. His height and long arms fit the team's parameters for the position and he obviously has the speed. General manager John Lynch said there was no tape of Moore playing cornerback but that scouts created cut ups of the times that he was in man-to-man coverage as a safety and evaluators think he can make the conversion. If not, the team knows he can fill in at free safety.
